Fellowships

For Postdoctoral Fellows, in addition to possible internal lab funds, there are several fellowships to consider, here a short list.

International:

EMBO postdoctoral Fellowship, requires international mobility, deadline in January

HSFP Fellowship, Early submission application deadline in May. Applicants not eligible to work in the country of their nationality, change of country from PhD also required.

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship, requires change of country from PhD. Applications open in April, deadline in September.

UK:

Royal Society Newton International Fellowships, This fellowship is for non-UK scientists who are at an early stage of their research career and wish to conduct research in the UK. No more than 5 years from PhD. Opens in January, application deadline in March

Royal Society Career Development Fellowship, less than 24 months post-doctoral experience, you self-identify as being from a Black heritage. Applications open in September and close in November.

Wellcome Early-Career Awards, no more than three years of Postdoctoral experience. Multiple calls: opens in February closes July, opens in July closes in November, opens in November closes in April.

BBSRC Fellowship Scheme, opens in February, application deadline in May

Daphne Jackson fellowship, for applicants who have taken a career break.

Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship. Up to six years of research experience since your PhD. For those who need for flexible support due to personal circumstances, such as parental responsibilities, caring responsibilities, and/or clinically diagnosed health conditions. Opens in September, closes in October.

Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships. the Leverhulme Trust will contribute 100% of the Fellow’s total salary costs (including National Insurance, superannuation and London allowance, where applicable) up to a maximum of £56,000 in year one of the award. The Trust will then contribute 50% of the Fellow’s total salary costs up to an annual maximum of £28,000 in years two and three, and the balance is to be paid by the host.
